YL NSW has been internationally recognised for its contribution to the global UIA, through our support for Ramat Hadassah, a youth village in Israel for underprivileged refugee children.

Ramat Hadassah is a village near Haifa for 315 Jewish children in need. Some of the children are orphans, others come from broken homes or disadvantaged circumstances. Ramat Hadassah is filled with the love, support and appropriate education otherwise inaccessible to these children.

Most of the immigrant children living in Ramat Hadassah are orphans; others come from broken homes or from homes with chronic illness or delinquent behaviour of the parents and/or siblings. Most of the children are illiterate, with scholastic gaps of 3-5 years, and acute behavioural problems due to their difficult family circumstances.

The children currently living in Ramat Hadassah are aged between 12-17, and are comprised mostly of immigrants from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union, as well as Israeli born youngsters from deprived backgrounds. Ramat Hadassah is a forum in which they are provided with love (a concept sadly foreign to many of them), support and appropriate education otherwise inaccessible to them.

With the Young Leadership division continued support, the Ramat Hadassah Youth village will be able to continue to enable Israel’s youth at risk to become mature, healthy adults and contributing members of society.
